Description

Many objects in the southern skies get no respect... or at least fewer images are taken of them. Only about 11% of the world’s population lives south of the equator, but remote imaging is opening up these skies to those of us in the north too now. RCW19 (Gum 10) is a prime example of an object that everyone would have on their checklist if it were further north. This is a beautiful nebula with bright signal in H-alpha, SII, and OIII, plus complex globules that resemble those of the famous Tadpole Nebula in Auriga, yet there are few images of it. It is also scientifically overlooked, with only 13 mentions in the scientific literature according to SIMBAD, most of which are in passing. So if you have access to the southern skies, give this one a try.
